The Nigeria international has secured a move to the Reebok Stadium following the collapse of his switch to Glasgow Rangers.

Watford accepted an offer from the Old Firm giants last month, but Shittu was unable to settle on personal terms with the Gers.

The defender has managed to agree a three-year contract with Bolton and joins for a fee in the region of £2million.

fourth signing

Shittu becomes Gary Megson's fourth signing of the summer, following on from Johan Elmander, Mustapha Riga and Fabrice Muamba.

He will now travel to Greece to meet up with his new team-mates and will add competition to Megson's defence, with doubts surrounding the future of Abdoulaye Meite.

Shittu made 75 appearances for Watford since moving to Vicarage Road two years ago from Queens Park Rangers.
